MIAMI (WPEC) — “I got you, buddy!”

That was the phrase meant to comfort a juvenile dolphin in Miami’s Biscayne Bay when it became trapped in a fishing net.

Officer Nelson Silva of the Miami-Dade Marine Patrol Unit got the call.

Watch as he pulls his boat up to the aquatic mammal near the Shorecrest area of Miami:

Officer Nelson Silva used a knife to cut the fishing net and free the trapped dolphin. (Miami-Dade Police Dept.)

Silva took out a pole and grabbed onto the net, with the dolphin inside.

He brought it close enough to use his hands and repeated, “I got you.”

Then, he took out a knife and delicately cut the net open.

The dolphin didn’t appear too pleased, at least according to the splash it made.

“Whooo!” Silva yelled as the dolphin took off, free at last.
