K9 cop to wear a custom-fitted protective body armor uniform

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (CBS12) — Say hello to Zo!

The West Palm Beach police K9 officer will be getting some potentially lifesaving doggie duds, thanks to a charitable donation.

It’s a bullet- and stab-protective vest, and it’ll come from Vested Interest in K9s, Inc.

That non-profit has given more than 4,500 vests to dogs of law enforcement and related agencies in all 50 states, costing almost $7 million.

The program is open to dogs at least 20 months old and actively employed.

Zo’s vest is U.S.-made, custom-fitted, and certified by the National Institute of Justice.

It’ll be embroidered with the sentiment “In memory of Ryan Gerard Farr & Gunner.”

Delivery is expected within eight to ten weeks.

The West Palm Beach Police Department reports there are an estimated 30,000 law enforcement K9s throughout the United States.
