DILLWYN, Va. (WPEC) — Tense moments when a lottery player realized she’d matched all five winning numbers in the Virginia Lottery’s Cash 5 with EZ Match game.

Most grand prize winners wouldn’t have reason to panic, but Mary Elliott did because she had thrown the ticket away!

That ticket was worth $110,000 so Elliott did what anybody would do, and that’s go digging through the trash.

Luckily, she found it but she still had one big problem keeping her from the big money.

It turned out, the ticket had coffee stains on it and the barcode wouldn’t scan to confirm her win.

This story does have a happy ending.

Elliott took the ticket to a lottery office and officials there were able to confirm the win and award her the $110,000 prize.

“When I saw I’d won, I couldn’t stop shaking to save my life!” she said.

Elliott added, she picked the winning numbers on her ticket by using important birthdays.
