SEBASTIAN, Fla. (CBS12) — A woman on the Treasure Coast is facing criminal charges after her elderly mother was found dead in a freezer in her garage, and police say she admitted to doing it over money.

Michele Hoskins, 64, is charged with failing to report the death of her mother and tampering with evidence.

Neighbors in Sebastian had become concerned about not seeing Marie Hoskins, 93.

In late April, CBS12 News reported Michele Hoskins also told police she hadn’t seen her mother but then officers conducting a welfare check found the woman’s body in the freezer.

They also found a heavily soiled mattress in the backyard of the home on Paddock Street. It was covered with thick brush and cut palm tree branches.

Now, detectives say the daughter admitted to finding her mother dead in her bedroom, and then buying a deep freezer to keep her mother’s death a secret.

They said she did that so she’d continue getting her mother’s disability benefits.

The investigation revealed Marie Hoskins died from natural causes, and she was dead for about two weeks before being put in the freezer.

Thursday, police got an arrest warrant.

Michele Hoskins is at the Indian River County Jail.

Her bail was set at $10,000.
