AUSTIN, Texas (TND/KEYE) — Police in Texas are searching for the latest suspect in a string of violent robberies known as “jugging,” after arresting four suspects in a separate incident.

The term “jugging” refers to a robber following a customer leaving a bank or ATM, and then stealing the cash they had just withdrawn.

This latest case happened in South Austin at about noon Friday.

Police released surveillance pictures of the man they say got out of a dark gray Ford Fusion with dark-tinted windows, and violently attacked an older woman, stealing her money.

Austin police said there have been about 140 reports of “jugging” over the past year.

Last Wednesday, in the suburb of Cedar Park, police arrested four men from the Houston area they said had attacked and robbed a man who had just visited a bank.

The group got away but police officers had gotten vehicle descriptions and license plate numbers.

Nearby, a sheriff’s deputy heard what was happening and spotted the two vehicles traveling together. He pulled one of them over while other law enforcement stopped the second vehicle.

They said they found a large amount of cash, along with equipment used for surveillance.

“We urge you to be aware of your surroundings,” the Cedar Park Police Department said. “Always be on the lookout and if you notice anything suspicious, please call us to report it. If you see something, say something. It can make a big difference.”
