BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. (TND) — This was no ordinary traffic stop and all of it was captured on police video cameras.
First was the typical chatter between a police officer in Florida and the man behind the wheel about what he did wrong.
But then, just after midnight Monday, Feb. 27, the Boynton Beach officer told driver Muhannad Ibrahim there was an active warrant out on him.
The video police released contains this exchange.
Officer: “Go ahead and step out of the car for me.”
Ibrahim: “For what?”
Officer: “Step out of the car for me.”
Ibrahim: “For what?”
Officer: “You have a warrant. Step out of the car. Don’t do anything stupid. Step out…”
Ibrahim: “All right! All right!”
Then, the audio went silent due to language and Ibrahim failed to obey that command, “Don’t do anything stupid.”
Instead, he pulled out a gun from his waistband and shot himself in the chin.
Police said Ibrahim, 33, raised the gun to his chin and fired one round. That self-inflicted gunshot wound landed him in the hospital in critical condition.
No officers were injured.
Now, Ibrahim is charged with carrying a concealed firearm, resisting without violence, and improper exhibition of a firearm.
His mugshot was not made available, perhaps because he shot himself in the chin.
According to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, he was booked on Feb. 27 at 5:12 a.m. and released in lieu of $50,000 bond on March 1 at 11:04 p.m.
By the way, that warrant on Ibrahim was for felony domestic battery by strangulation.
