PHOTO GALLERY: Excavator flips backward, crashes into side of beachfront hotel

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WPDE) — An accident involving a piece of heavy construction equipment damaged at least two floors of the beachfront hotel next door. The pictures from Myrtle Beach, S.C., tell the story.

An excavator overturned, Monday afternoon. The cause is under investigation.

The top of the high-reach excavator crashed into the side of the Boardwalk Beach Resort, damaging at least two floors.

On the upper damaged floor, the excavator took out the railing on the catwalk.

It came to rest on the floor below, and the concrete catwalk looks cracked.

Fire officials got the call about the accident.

Fortunately, no one was injured and the building was vacant at the time,” Capt. Jonathan Evans said.

Authorities asked people in the area to stay away.

A few hours later, a check on the hotel’s website showed no rooms available Monday night, but rates starting at $110 on Tuesday.
