LAKE BUTLER, Fla. (TND) — Two girls from Florida who disappeared have been found and are safe, but they may be in big trouble — if not by law enforcement, then by their parents.

The pair left early last Thursday morning to meet an unknown person they met online in Louisiana, according to WGFL.

But NBC News reported that to get there, 12-year-old Jade Gregory stole her father’s car and then picked up her 14-year-old friend, Khloe Larson.

After that, the girls were reported missing.

The Union County Sheriff’s Office in northeast Florida sent out an alert, saying,

“They may be traveling in her parents’ Mr. Gregory’s, 2016, black Ford Taurus, FL TAG: BWKU59. The children may be traveling west on I-10 in the Baton Rouge, Louisiana area.”

“*There is no known adult with them, and no foul play expected*”

Word spread quickly and widely that the girls — who’d driven nearly 400 miles in about six hours — saw themselves on TV when they stopped at a store.

That was in Bayou La Batre, Ala., on the Gulf Coast, near the Mississippi border.

At last report, the girls were still in Alabama, awaiting a hearing. Union County deputies told WGFL the girls were not cooperating, and their parents were frantic.

Also, there’s no word on who the girls left home to see, and the FBI will be taking over the investigation.
