Powerball winning numbers for $850 million jackpot drawn Wednesday night

DES MOINES, Iowa (TND) — Winning numbers for one of the largest lottery jackpots ever were drawn Wednesday night.

Those winning numbers were 1, 7, 46, 47, 63, with a Powerball of 7.

Before the drawing, Powerball estimated the prize for a single ticket with all the winning numbers would be $850 million. That’s if the winner chooses to be paid through an annuity over 30 years.

But winners almost always choose the cash payout option. In that case, the prize is estimated to be $397.4 million — minus taxes, of course.

There had been many more Powerball lottery losers than winners recently.

Before Wednesday’s drawing, there were 29 consecutive drawings without a jackpot winner.

In fact, the last time a Powerball drawing led to a grand prize winner was July 19, when a player in California won even more money: $1.08 billion.

The long, long odds of winning the top prize are 1 in 292.2 million. That’s why the jackpot rolls over so often.

Drawings are held three times a week —Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays at 10:59 p.m. ET — at the Florida Lottery draw studio in Tallahassee.

Powerball is played in 45 states, as well as Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
