MIAMI (TND) — A school bus driver in Florida is in trouble with the law for forgetting about a sleeping girl on board and driving her around on errands for a few hours. That girl is just four years old.
Miami-Dade police said on Sept. 19, Elizabeth Carrero picked up the victim at her home at about 7:30 a.m.
Then, she drove the victim and 11 other children to school and dropped them off at about 7:45 a.m.
Actually, just 11 of the 12 children.
According to police, “The defendant then left the school and drove to the bank, the mechanic to fix her air filter, and to get gas in the vehicle, all while the victim was unknowingly asleep inside the vehicle.
“The defendant then drove herself home.”
Meanwhile, the little girl spent more than three hours on the bus.
Police said she woke up at about 11 a.m. and,
”A neighbor noticed the victim getting off the bus, drenched in sweat.”
The neighbor told police she knew the owner of the bus and knocked on Carrero’s door. Finally, the driver called the girl’s parents to pick her up.
Carrero turned herself in more than two weeks later, on Oct. 5.
Police said she “took full responsibility for her actions. The defendant admitted she did not check the bus as she usually does for the children.”
Carrero, 33, was charged with child neglect without great bodily harm.
