DAVENPORT, Fla. (TND) — A couple from Britain traveled thousands of miles to get married in Florida and their Uber ride will be memorable for a different reason.

Last Tuesday night, Oct. 24, Marc and Rhiannon were being driven by Elijah Mills when a Polk County sheriff’s “deputy got behind them.

”And then came a few more deputies,” the agency reported. “And then the deputies boxed-in Elijah’s Chevy Equinox and forced it to stop.”

The reason was it wasn’t exactly “Elijah’s Chevy Equinox.”

Authorities said he had rented the SUV and stopped making payments, so the rental company reported it as stolen.

They said Mills even told them “the rental company would call him every day, but he refused to answer because he knew they would ask him about the payments.”

Then, they reported, to top that, “He said that the rental company equips their vehicles with a device that keeps the vehicle from restarting, in case people stop making their payments, so Elijah had kept the Chevy Equinox running for three straight weeks.”

Mills, himself, wasn’t running anywhere.

The 27-year-old was arrested and charged with grand theft motor vehicle and driving with a license suspended or revoked. He was released from jail in lieu of $1,250 bond.

As for the visitors, they posed for a picture with the deputies who stopped their driver and got a free ride to their destination.
