COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (TND) — A man is under arrest after a deadly shooting outside a Colorado courthouse and he told police he was afraid of the victim.

The violence took place at the El Paso County Courthouse in Colorado Springs, last Thursday morning, Nov. 16.

A police officer wrote in the arrest affidavit about seeing “an obvious gunshot wound” to the victim’s forehead. The victim was identified as 28-year-old William Winters.

Court security personnel detained the suspect, 29-year-old Shaquille Brown.

According to the arrest affidavit, “Mr. Brown explained that he was assaulted by” the victim, Winters, in April, and there was a police report at the time.

It continued, “Mr. Brown stated that his injuries were severe enough to require surgery, where metal plates or rods were inserted into his face.”

He also said Winters “would send threats on social media, specifically Facebook.”

Plus, he “explained that he was so frightened” that he “borrowed” a handgun from “a friend.”

Brown, who the report says has “a substantial criminal record,” was arrested and charged with first-degree murder.
