MINNEAPOLIS (TND) — Customs officials were able to stop an unsafe shipment from China labeled “Vaginal Tightening Gel” before thousands of syringes got into the hands, or gloves, of Americans.

Last Monday, Nov. 20, officers at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport inspected the shipment from Hong Kong that was addressed to a home in Woodbury, east of St. Paul.

Inside were 2,536 pre-filled syringes of vaginal tightening gel.

They “were found in pink packaging, appearing ready for resale,” according to the feds.

And inside the syringes were “commercial quantities of a gel inside injectables and required the user to wear chemical resistant gloves when handling,” Customs and Border Protection said.

The items were seized for violating the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act. Had they been sold, the total domestic value would have been more than $19,000.

“This dangerous shipment is another example of someone using unregulated gels to prey on unknowing consumers with false promises,” warned LaFonda D. Sutton-Burke, Director, Field Operations-Chicago Field Office.

“Not knowing what you are inserting in your body can be deadly, and consumers believe they are getting a discount, when in fact they are purchasing an inferior product with unapproved ingredients.”
