SANFORD, Fla. (TND) — A man in Florida is accused of shooting his live-in girlfriend of 10 years three times in her upper body during an argument, after threatening to kill her.

Deputies said the victim’s daughter called them late Sunday.

According to the arrest report, “I went to the hospital and observed three holes which appeared to be injuries from a projectile fired from a gun. The first injury was to the left shoulder area, the second was in the throat area, and the third was in the upper right arm.

“I was advised that the bullet which struck [the victim]’s right arm shatter[ed] a bone in her upper arm area and an x-ray showed the suspected bullet fragments inside.

“I was provided a baggie containing a suspected projectile which was located by hospital staff when they rolled [the victim] to conduct a CT scan. The projectile appeared to be from a small caliber bullet such as a .22 or .25 caliber round.”

The victim told a deputy said she and her boyfriend, Jan Henry, Jr., had gotten into an argument so she went to her daughter’s home to get away from the situation. Then, when her daughter drove her back, “They were met by an angry Jan Henry, Jr.”

The victim said she was going to leave again when “she heard Jan Henry, Jr., yell that he was going to kill her, and then she heard three gunshots. She saw the gun in Henry’s hands, but she could not advise whether or not it was a revolver or a semi-automatic handgun.”

The daughter said “Jan Henry was agitated and slammed the front door, so they went to leave, at which time Henry appeared from the side of the residence with a gun in his hand screaming, ‘B***h, I’m gonna kill you.’ At this point, [the daughter] stated she heard two gunshots,” and she ran away to call 911.

According to the arrest report, “It was clear after speaking with [the daughter] and [victim] that Jan Henry, Jr., shot [the victim] after verbally declaring his intent to kill her.”

A deputy even wrote about being approached by a neighbor who said “she came outside of her residence after hearing gunshots and observed a male she personally knows as Jan Henry, Jr., walking west on Main Street, carrying a gun in his right hand and smoking a cigarette with his left.”

He was arrested the next day and “Henry would not admit to shooting [the victim] and instead stated it was a man that she was seeing who happened to be in the backyard of their residence. Jan Henry, Jr., advised me that he is a convicted felon and would not be in possession of a firearm.”

Back in 2019, he’d been adjudicated guilty of battery upon a person 65 years of age or older.

This time, Henry, 50, is charged with attempted first-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and he was denied bond.

It’s the 14th time he has faced charges in Seminole County since 2001.
