MIAMI (TND) — A dozen people were very lucky after their boat sank about 30 miles north of Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic, on Wednesday.
The Coast Guard said six of them, on a raft, were rescued by a Carnival cruise ship but the cruise line reported there were six other crew members from the vessel “Two Brothers” who were missing.
The Coast Guard sent an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter to the area.
Crew members conducted search patterns near the sunken vessel’s last reported location and found all six of them hanging onto debris.
Video shows a crew member jumping down, into the ocean, and helping hoist the survivors onto the chopper.
“The weather conditions were less than ideal,” Lt. Cmdr. Jeb Slick, the mission’s copilot, said.
The survivors were taken to emergency medical services in Puerto Plata.
All 12 of them were reported to be in good health.
