THE VILLAGES, Fla. (TND) — Deputies arrived very quickly and caught up with a woman in the parking lot of a Walmart after she was “ripping price tags off of numerous items and placing items into the front of her pants,” a loss prevention officer said.

It happened Monday afternoon in Florida and the arrest report said she “passed all points of sale without attempting to pay for the merchandise,”

and when told to stop, she “stated she did not take anything and continued to flee from the store.”

That behavior reportedly continued in the parking lot.

The arrest report said deputies “gave several verbal commands for the defendant to stop walking away,” but she “ignored” them.

Then, it turned physical.

The deputies wrote they “grabbed the defendant’s arms and attempted to detain her with handcuffs,” but she “began to actively resist [them] by pulling away from us, tensing her arms, and clenching her fists.

“I instructed the defendant to stop resisting, to which she continued to resist.”

Eventually, they got her in cuffs and “escorted” her back to the store’s loss prevention office, but they said she wasn’t done.

“The defendant continued to actively squirm in an attempt to get away, kicking at [the deputies] in the process.”

Walmart said Lisa Ruth Powers stole “$122.10 worth of merchandise,” including tampons, shoes, sports bras, two jackets, and a backpack.

Whatever happened after deputies read Powers her rights was blacked out of the arrest report.

Powers is actually being held without bond on charges of petit theft and resisting without violence, possibly because this wasn’t her first arrest.

Powers spent May 21 to July 18 behind bars after she was seen “underneath a carport on an abandoned property,” nearby.

The report said there were multiple “no trespassing” signs around and, “As deputies approached the defendant, we detected an odor of marijuana under the carport.

“The defendant quickly grabbed an object and placed it behind her back, tucking it in her waistband.

“Upon asking the defendant to show what she was concealing, she removed a blue in color glass smoking pipe with a white crystalline residue.”

Authorities said it tested positive for methamphetamine and she served time for possession of drug paraphernalia.

Powers, 41, also has a record in New Mexico.

She was arrested Sept. 5, 2022, for larceny at a Walmart in Albuquerque, and identified as a theft suspect at another Walmart there, but she has never been convicted of theft.

She does have a warrant for failure to appear in Santa Fe.
