LADY LAKE, Fla. (TND) — A DUI suspect was identified when someone traveling behind told police in Florida her SUV “was running off the road,” and was arrested after failing field sobriety exercises.
Police in the arrest report said the caller “continued to follow the vehicle and give updates,” last Monday evening.
That person “provided dispatch with details relating to the vehicle crossing into oncoming traffic, running off the road, and almost striking a golf cart,” it said.
A police officer got to the SUV just after Patricia Garbelman arrived home safely and noted on getting out, “Patricia used the vehicle for support and was unsteady on her feet.
“Patricia was staggering while walking and had bloodshot, watery, and glassy eyes.
“As Patricia came closer to me, the overwhelming aroma of an alcoholic beverage was emitting from her person.
“I asked Patricia if she was drinking tonight at which time she replied, ‘I am fine.’
“Patricia was very confused and could not follow basic directions.”
The field sobriety exercises that took place reportedly did not go well, so Garbelman was arrested and taken to jail.
The results of her two breath tests were 0.138 and 0.131, according to the arrest report.
The officer also noted, “While conducting the breath test, Patricia fell out of her chair falling to the floor.”
Garbelman, 71, was charged with DUI-1st offense and released after seven hours in jail, in lieu of $1,000 bond.
