LANCASTER, Pa. (TND) — A man recently charged with sexually assaulting two children decades ago now faces new charges “involving infant and toddler-aged victims.”
Pennsylvania State Police broke a cold case from 1997 after executing a search warrant at the Lancaster home of Eric Dorwart.
According to the district attorney’s office,
two laptops found in August had “1,672 images consistent with child pornography and associated erotica,” and an iPhone contained “approximately 464 images of fetish material with 61 images consistent with child pornography involving infant and toddler-aged victims.”
Of those iPhone images, “167 were identified as Dorwart engaged in sexual contact with three separate prepubescent children,” the D.A.’s office said.
That investigation is ongoing, and police said the victims were infants the Dorwart family may have been babysitting. Anyone who can help identify the victims or other potential victims is asked to call state police at 717-299-7650.
Dorwart was first charged in October with sexually assaulting two children, ages 5 and 7, outside their home in 1997.
The D.A.’s office said DNA evidence was collected back then, “periodically checked,” and “investigators eventually identified Dorwart.”
In May, state police investigators “removed trash from the front of his residence that was left at the end of the driveway for street pickup,” and swabbed items for DNA.
The results came back in July and “showed the DNA profile obtained from the trash matched the DNA saved as evidence from the sexual assault in 1997.”
Dorwart, 54, was charged in October with involuntary deviate sexual intercourse of a person less than 13, indecent assault of a person less than 15, and two counts of corruption of minors.
He was released on $25,000 unsecured bail but is back behind pending arraignment on new charges: photographing, filming, depicting a computer sex act with a child under 18; possessing child pornography; rape of a child; involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with a child; and aggravated indecent assault of a child.
