OCALA, Fla. (TND) — A mother-daughter argument through text message turned verbal and then it got physical, and the violence ended when the daughter called the sheriff’s office on her mother.

The daughter said, “Her mother/defendant, Jeanne Bratton, hit her on the face and the head multiple times,” according to the arrest report from Monday in Florida.

“The victim advised after having an argument through text message, when she arrived at the incident location, they started verbally arguing and the defendant started punching her and hitting her.

“The victim advised the defendant was telling her to fight back, but she was not going to hit her mother.

“The victim advised her mother has never acted like that with her before, and that it is the first time an incident like this happened between them.”

The deputy wrote about seeing “injuries on the victim,” noting, “The victim’s left eye was swollen with a bruise.

“I observed blood on the victim by the left ear, coming from her head.”

The daughter’s age was not part of the report. Neither was the subject of the argument.

Then, the deputy spoke with Bratton who first said, “She never hit the victim, that it was just a verbal argument.

Jeanne Marie Bratton was arrested for (from left) battery in 2010, DUI in 2018, some drug charges in 2020, and battery again in 2024. (Marion Co. Sheriff’s Office)

“After continuing questioning the defendant, she admitted that she hit the victim twice on the head after the victim was cursing at her.”

Bratton, 59, was charged with battery and released after 32 hours in jail in lieu of $1,000 bond.

This was not Bratton’s first arrest for battery. That happened in 2010, and the case was eventually dropped.
