YULEE, Fla. (TND) — A senior citizen in Florida called 911 and “requested emergency medical services for his significant other,” who he said “was bleeding from her face and eyes after he attacked her over a dispute regarding a utility bill.”

According to his arrest report, “The suspect also told dispatch numerous times that rescue units needed to hurry up before he finished her off.”

A deputy arrived at their home Friday morning, March 8, and was greeted in the front yard by Dennis Wayne McCabe yelling to “‘hurry up and get in this house, I’m fixing to finish this son of a b***h,’ referring to the victim.”

The deputy put McCabe in the back of her patrol vehicle, then went inside and found the victim “laying in a puddle of blood on the kitchen floor, in and out of consciousness.”

The deputy wrote, “The victim had numerous injuries to her face, head, and torso,” and she was flown to the hospital.

According to the arrest report, McCabe said he and the victim had been in a relationship and living together for 15 years, and “The reason the argument took place was over the AmeriGas company bill discrepancy, as well as built-up stress in the residence overall.

“The suspect stated the victim became upset and began to throw things around the house as well as hit him in the chest.

“The suspect stated he did not believe the victim was attempting to hurt him, rather it was a cry for help.

“The suspect added, the victim had been having recent suicidal ideations and began to say she didn’t want to live anymore.

“The suspect admitted to making the conscious decision and to attempt to take the victim’s life out of ‘mercy.’

“The suspect stated he punched her in the face multiple times, kicked her ribs, and kicked her in the head while she was on the floor.

“The suspect stated he would’ve killed the victim if law enforcement did not respond.

“The suspect went on to say he knew what he did and he was guilty and would tell the judge the same.”

He’s scheduled to have that opportunity on Tuesday morning.

At the time of the arrest report, the victim was in critical condition and being treated for her injuries.

McCabe, 76, was charged with attempted murder and is being held without bond.
