EUSTIS, Fla. – A family fight included both parties punched in the face several times, and it ended with police and paramedics at their home, but the alleged victim wasn’t going anywhere.
The call came as a “domestic battery complaint” in the early afternoon of Dec. 21 in Florida.
Somil Patel was found “in his bedroom, lying down, when I entered the residence,” an officer wrote. “I noticed his mouth was bloody and he had a black left eye.
“I also noticed blood on his pillow he was laying on.
“Somil advised he got into an argument with” somebody whose name was redacted throughout the arrest report, but also lives in the home.
“The argument occurred in [location], which is two rooms from his own bedroom,” the report continued. “The argument was about Somil trying to get a ride to work.
“Somil advised he was unable to drive because he is prone to have seizures, and his father, [name], also cannot drive.
“He asked [the victim] if he could drive him to work, which he declined.
“After a short time of arguing, Somil stated [the victim] punched him in the face. Somil punched [the victim] back, and then went back to his bedroom.
“Somil stated he wanted to prosecute for battery,” but that’s not how this story ends.
“Somil walked into his bedroom while he was lying down, watching television, and trying to sleep,” the alleged victim told the officer, but then the stories differ.
“Somil began asking [the victim] about getting work to make money,” the arrest report said. “[The victim] told Somil he did not have any jobs available right now.
“Somil became upset and began yelling at [the victim]. After arguing for a short time, Somil punched [the victim] in the face while [the victim] was still lying on the bed.
“[The victim] began to stand, and Somil punched him two more times in the face. [The victim] punched Somil back in the face two times, and Somil fell. [The victim] then punched Somil once more before stopping, due to Somil being on the ground.
“After this, Somil walked back to his bedroom.”
Finally, the officer spoke to a witness whose name was redacted, but believed to be the father.
“He stated he came home and saw Somil walk into [the bedroom],” the officer wrote. “The door shut and then he heard them arguing inside. He told them he would be calling the police.
“After a short time of arguing, he heard a loud noise, as if something had fallen inside the bedroom. After that, Somil came out of the room and went back to his own room.
“Lake EMS arrived on scene and determined Somil had to go to the hospital due to his high blood pressure. Somil was placed on their stretcher, where I placed him under arrest for domestic battery,” the officer wrote, after determining him “to be the primary aggressor.”
Patel, 26, spent about seven hours at the hospital, and 11-and-a-half hours in jail until his release in lieu of $1,000 bond.
His arrest report lists his occupation as customer service at a cell phone company. It did not say how far he had to travel, or whether he still has that job.
