GROVELAND, Fla. – Peace on earth. Good will toward men. Not at this Florida family’s home after their Christmas gathering.
Their underage son called police at about 6:30 p.m. “because his mother was inebriated and fighting with his father,” the arrest report said.
“Upon arrival,” an officer wrote, “I met with [the son], who seemed scared and was talking and a shaky voice. … His mother and father had a lot to drink throughout the night while celebrating Christmas with his grandparents.
“Once his grandparents left their house, his mother,” suspect Amy Lynn Meyers, “got into an argument with his father,” identified as the victim, on their front lawn.
Then, he told the officer, “He could see his mother grabbing his father’s shirt collar. While his mother was grabbing his father’s shirt collar, he stated that his father grabbed his mother’s wrist to pry her hands off his shirt, and pull away. Once his father was able to free himself, [the son] noticed that his mother struck his father in the face with her hand. After the victim was struck, he went over to the neighbor’s house to separate himself from the defendant.
“Once the victim had left the house, the defendant went to grab a gun out of the closet, and threatened to shoot herself. The complainant was able to get the gun away and put the gun in his sister’s closet.”
His sister also reported seeing “the defendant grab ahold of the victim’s shirt and strike him in the face,” the arrest report said. She had been “walking back to the house with her friends” at the time.
The father couldn’t help the investigation much.
“He provided the same course of events,” the officer wrote, “but could not remember if the defendant had struck him, due to him being inebriated as well. The victim stated that after he fell to the ground and broke free from her grabbing his shirt; he went to the neighbor’s house.
“While observing the victim’s face, I noticed red marks around the left eye that is consistent with being struck, and red marks around his neck consistent with someone grabbing around his neck area.”
Inside the house, the cop wrote, he noticed “the mother was crying and was heavily inebriated. When I asked the defendant to explain to me what happened, she said that she hates her mother- and father-in-law, and yelled at her husband wanting a divorce and needed a break.
“She then stated her and her husband continued to argue outside where she then demonstrated with her right hand how she struck her husband with a closed fist.
“The defendant was requesting to be taken to jail multiple times, so she may get a break from everyone. When asking the defendant to provide a statement, she refused to provide a statement.
“I could observe around the defendant’s wrist, red marks and bruising consistent with someone grabbing them around the wrist.”
Meyers, 46, was charged with domestic battery. She was a released after 19 hours in jail in lieu of $2,000 bond. Court records show a No Victim Contact order in place.
