Woman charged with battery on 2 paramedics while on probation for battery on 2 police officers

OCALA, Fla. – A woman convicted of battery on two police officers is facing charges again, this time for battery on two paramedics.

The call about Heidi Jo Crane came “in reference to an unconscious person” in Florida on Sept. 3.

“Fire Rescue was already on scene and loaded the patient onto the ambulance,” an officer wrote, but, “Upon making contact, I overheard MCFR paramedic [name] telling the patient Crane that she will not put her hands on his partner, MCFR paramedic [name].

“Due to EMS’s initial contact and Crane’s behavior, it was determined that Crane would be placed under a Marchman Act.

“Prior to departing,” the officer continued, “I advised Crane that she must keep her hands to herself or she’d be placed under arrest and taken to the jail.

“Crane advised ‘f*** you’, ‘f*** you and Jesus c***,’ and she had already been to the jail in the past.” That was two years ago on similar charges.

On Sept. 3, the ambulance and officer made their way to the hospital separately and the arrest report continued,

“As I exited my patrol vehicle, I heard [the first paramedic] telling Crane ‘don’t hit my partner like that.’

“I then observed [the first paramedic] restraining Crane’s arms as [the second paramedic] held onto Crane’s legs while looking for restraints.

“I grabbed onto Crane’s right leg as [the second paramedic] restrained her left leg and [the first paramedic] maintained hold onto her arms.

“I then observed [the first paramedic] start struggling with Crane and pushed her face away from him while saying ‘ow’ and ‘stop.’

“I grabbed Crane’s right arm as [the second paramedic] continued to place her in restraints.

“I also observed Crane appear to try to bite [the second paramedic] and told her not to bite him, which she replied she was going to lick him.

“It should be noted that Crane continuously used derogatory terms such as ‘f****rs,’ ‘s*** bag,’ ‘f****** pig,’ and ‘f****** w****.’”

The arrest report said when they finally arrived at the hospital, the paramedics reported “Crane began taking off the straps of the stretcher so [the first paramedic] grabbed and held onto her arms.

“[The paramedics] advised, as [the second paramedic] climbed into the back of the ambulance to assist [the first paramedic], Crane kicked [the second paramedic] in the chest with her leg.

“[The first paramedic] advised, while I was holding onto Crane’s leg, she (Crane) began trying to bend his thumb back and began scratching his arm in an attempt to get him to break his grip of her arms.”

The officer wrote, “I did observe scratch marks and red marks to [the first paramedic’s] wrists where he advised Crane scratched him. [The second paramedic] advised he did not have any injuries.”

The arrest report ended by noting Crane’s arrest two years ago, apparently after she had car trouble.

The call on Sept. 30, 2022, was “a belligerent white female pushing someone,” according to Crane’s older arrest report.

“As I approached Crane,” an officer wrote, “I could hear her screaming at the other officers on scene.

“[Two officers] got Crane out of the vehicle, where I assisted them by handcuffing Crane.

“[The officers] escorted Crane to vehicle 091, where she was being placed under arrest for disorderly conduct, where I attempted to search her.

“As I patted down Crane, she became very angry and turned her head to the left, where I was standing, and spit on me, landing on my face and glasses.

“[Another officer] then stepped in, taking my place in an attempt to control Crane; she turned again, turned to the left, and spat on [that officer], where it landed on his face.

“A spit mask was placed on Crane to avoid getting spit on again.

“[Officers] then attempted to place Crane in the back of the patrol vehicle when she dropped all her weight, hit her head on the patrol door, and scraped her toe on the pavement, causing minor injuries.”

Also, a witness described what happened before the violence.

The arrest report said she told officers,

“Crane was parked in the middle of the road in the parking lot, where she was honking and stumbling around, when a B/M [Black man’s name] helped her push her vehicle out of the way.

“Crane then pushed [the man] and began yelling vulgar and racial slurs at three Black females who did not wish to give their information.

“[Name redacted] stated that she had a video of the woman lying in the middle of the street and her yelling racial slurs to the three women, with which she provided [an officer] with.”

Crane was taken to jail and charged with two counts of battery on law enforcement officers, along with disturbing the peace.

She spent four months in jail until she pleaded no contest to the charges and was sentenced to probation, along with conditions and fines.

That case has been reopened as a violation since Crane’s probation was to end Jan. 29, 2025.

This time, Crane, 49, was charged with two counts of battery on emergency workers.

She pleaded not guilty and has not been released.

Documents do not say why Crane was “unconscious” and those paramedics-turned-victims were called in the first place.
