EUSTIS, Fla. – A suspected hit-and-run driver got a taste of his own medicine – sort of – when the driver of a car he hit ended up rear-ending him. That suspect is now facing 10 criminal charges, including DUI.
The victim told a sheriff’s deputy in Florida a gold car “hit his vehicle and attempted to take off from the scene,” on Sept. 27.
According to the arrest report, “The complainant advised that he attempted to follow the vehicle to obtain the tag number.
“As the complainant started to follow the suspect vehicle, the suspect slammed on brakes, causing the complainant to rear-end the suspect vehicle.
“After the suspect was rear-ended, the complainant advised that the suspect took off down the road.”
That’s leaving the scene of two crashes, and another deputy in the area “was able to get behind the suspect vehicle and conduct a traffic stop.”
That’s also when authorities first suspected Jordan Alexander Borek “appeared to be under the influence,” the arrest report said. “Mr. Borek was slurring his words, having a hard time maintaining his balance, and could not/would not hold a conversation with deputies.
“Mr. Borek had dry blood on his face upon making contact with him. I asked him how he got blood on his face,” one of the deputies wrote, “and Mr. Borek advised that he got into a fight. I asked Mr. Borek who he got into a fight with, and he advised that he was scared to tell us who.
“Mr. Borek was very skeptical of us on scene, and he began to shut down and no longer answer our questions.
“In order to determine if Mr. Borek needed any medical attention for possible injuries, I allowed some time to pass and then asked him again if he had been in a fight. Mr. Borek seemed confused and stated that he never told me he was in a fight. Because Mr. Borek was having a hard time remembering the topics that we discussed minutes prior, it furthered our suspicions that he was under the influence.”
Then, a Florida Highway Patrol trooper arrived to investigate the second crash, and “Mr. Borek was not cooperative,” the arrest report said.
Despite invoking his Miranda rights, authorities said he admitted “to being in two accidents today that he advised he was the victim in.
“Mr. Borek advised that he was rear-ended in a parking lot in Altoona, FL, and rear-ended near Sorrento.
“The victim of the hit-and-run in which in what Mr. Borek thought was Altoona did call in to report the incident,” so a deputy asked Borek “why he did not stay at the scene of either accident,” and “he advised he was scared.”
Borek was arrested and his car was searched.
Authorities reported finding “110 (30dp) Adderall pills, 7.5 (e 504 1 5) amphetamine dextroamphetamine pills, 4 (15 LCI) amphetamine dextroamphetamine pills, 4 broken pills, 6.75 S 90 3) alprazolam pills, 6.25 (b 974 3 0) amphetamine dextroamphetamine, 1.5 (2 0 9 0 V) alprazolam pills, 2 (AD 30) amphetamine dextroamphetamine pills … along with (9) 308 rounds, (1) 308 rifle magazine, and (1) 308 rifle (SN P513977). Mr. Borek also had his large dog in the vehicle that was turned over” to the animal control officer, and his car was towed away.
Finally, in jail, “Borek agreed to do [field sobriety] exercises,” but then changed his mind.
“Once I started to give the instructions for the exercises,” the deputy wrote, “Mr. Borek became argumentative and would not allow me to finish giving him directions.
“Mr. Borek was advised that if he continued to interrupt me, I would assume he was refusing to do the exercises. Mr. Borek continued to be argumentative.
“I instructed Mr. Borek to sit in the chair inside the DUI room so that he could do the breathalyzer. Mr. Borek advised he would not provide a breath sample.
“[A Mount Dora police officer] read Mr. Borek implied consent and he still refused to provide a sample.”
Borek, 29, faces 10 criminal charges. Seven of them are felonies for possession of a controlled substance. He’s also facing two counts of leaving the scene of a crash, and refusing to submit to a DUI test.
Borek’s bond was set at $21,500, and he has neither paid it nor been released from jail.
