Arrested on his wedding night: He snuck up, threw glass beer bottle at brother’s face, deputies say

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – A wedding should be the happiest day of a young couple’s life, but this one ended with the groom going to jail. The family celebration had turned into a brother vs. brother tussle with a glass beer bottle.

Sheriff’s deputies in Florida got called an “armed disturbance” at a home on Halloween night.

There were three brothers.

One of them, a witness, told authorities “his family was celebrating the wedding of his brother, and he was sitting at a table with other family members. [This brother] heard [the victim] and Saad Butt (suspect) arguing behind him.

“[This brother] turned around,” the arrest report said, “and observed a glass beer bottle breaking and shattering, cutting his hand. [This brother] saw his brothers, [the victim] and Saad, wrestling with each other and quickly broke up the fight. [This brother] advised that he did not know who threw the beer bottle and did not see anybody get hit by it. [This brother] advised that after the altercation, [the victim] and Saad both left the residence.”

A deputy wrote another witness, “a member of the band performing” at the interrupted wedding party, blamed the brother who authorities labelled the victim.

“[This witness] observed [the victim] take a beer bottle to break it over the head of Saad. [The victim] tried to attack Saad while he was on the floor, but other family members were holding him back from attacking Saad. [The victim] was walking to the front of the residence when he threatened his father and family.

“[This witness] advised he heard [the victim] say, ‘I will come back here tomorrow and kill everybody.’ [The victim] continued cursing and yelling as he was leaving the residence, and stated, ‘I have a gun in my car, and I get it.’ [The witness] observed [the victim] leave the residence with his seven-year-old who [the witness] believes saw everything.”

At this point, deputies at the scene learned a black pickup truck had left “the incident residence” and another deputy saw it on the road nearby, “made an investigatory stop on the vehicle,” and found the bride and groom inside.

The lead deputy “responded to the traffic stop to speak to Saad Butt,” who would soon be arrested and face a felony.

“Saad stated that he was enjoying his wedding party with his family when [the victim] and he disagreed about Disney tickets,” the deputy wrote. “Saad advised that the Disney tickets had nothing to do with him and did not understand why [the victim] was mad at him. Saad and [the victim] began arguing about the tickets until they were separated by other family members.

“During the argument, [the victim] grabbed a beer bottle and threw it towards a tree in the backyard. Saad stated that nothing physical happened between him and [the victim]. Saad also advised he was not hit over the head with a beer bottle. Saad did not need medical treatment and did not have any injuries on his body.”

Finally, the deputy heard from the victim, who reportedly said,

“He was at Saad’s wedding party with [a friend] and was having a disagreement with [his father]. While [the victim] was speaking with his father, Saad snuck up on [the victim] and threw a Corona bottle at his face.

“The bottle shattered on [the victim] and he attempted to fight Saad for throwing the bottle. His family members grabbed him immediately, not allowing him to retaliate against Saad.”

He said he left, “and he did not have a firearm with him during the incident. [The victim] advised he did not make any threats to kill anybody, but he will protect himself if needed.”

The deputy examined the victim and wrote about “multiple one-inch scratches on his chest, arm, shoulder, and lip. I observed a two-inch small laceration under his right eye that was bleeding slowly, and took photos of his injuries. [The victim] advised he did not require medical treatment and he was OK.”

Back at the scene of the violence, “I observed broken glasses in the middle of the party tent and multiple bottles of beer on the tables,” the deputy wrote. “I did not observe any bottles broken around the trees and did not observe any blood in the area.

“I observed [the brother who was the witness] having two one-inch cuts on his left hand from broken glass, and I took photos of his body and injuries. I observed Saad did not have any bruises or marks on his body, and I took photos of his body.”

Last, the deputy noted, “They have a previous history of domestic violence and I observed signs of alcohol influencing both Saad and [the victim], and there is no active injunction between them.”

The deputy decided, “[The victim]’s injuries were accurate with his statement about being hit with a beer bottle glass. Saad was the primary aggressor in this incident for hitting [the victim] with a beer bottle, and Saad[’s] spontaneous utter when he was arrested, ‘I should have told you the truth’ about the incident. Saad did not want to speak more about the comment he made, and remained silent.

Saad Faiz Butt, 27, was charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, and booked after midnight on Nov. 1.

Court records show he was released three days later in lieu of $500 bond.

The deputy noted, “There were no children present at the residence during the altercation,” despite what a witness had said.

The arrest report did not mention the bride, other than her leaving with her new husband, or details about the Disney tickets.
