CLERMONT, Fla. – A call about “a physical altercation” led to a young woman with a bloody cut on her nose, but she’s no victim. She was arrested for two counts of battery on her parents.
The violence happened after a Christmas party, of all occasions.
The father “had blood around the inside of his mouth, as well as a cut on the left side of his upper lip,” a sheriff’s deputy in Florida reported after midnight Dec. 21. “[He] advised that he received the injury from arrestee Maggie Rose Zielonka, who struck him multiple times with an open fist and a closed fist.
“[He] also advised he would not complete a sworn affidavit, and that he had no intent to press charges.”
Next, the deputy wrote the mother “had visible damage to her hair on the back right side. While speaking with [the] mother, she advised Ms. Zielonka pulled out a clump of her hair. The clump of hair was located on the kitchen table.
“[She] also declined to complete a sworn affidavit or press charges. It should be noted [the couple] are [redacted] parents of Ms. Zielonka, who they have raised since she was seven years old, and are her legal guardians,” even apparently at age 23.
According to the arrest report, the parents told the deputy, “Ms. Zielonka came home from a Christmas party intoxicated, and she then became extremely argumentative and wanted to take her baby from the [couple]. Both [father] and [mother] advised that due to Ms. Zielonka’s poor cognitive skills, they were afraid she would fall and injure the baby.
“Ms. Zielonka then became physically aggressive and struck both of the [couple]: [her father] in the mouth multiple times, and once Ms. Zielonka then made it past [her father] and tried to take the baby from [her mother], at which point Ms. Zielonka grabbed [her mother] by the hair and ripped out a large clump of her hair.
“[The couple] were then able to separate from Ms. Zielonka and locked the door to keep Ms. Zielonka out. They then called 911,” apparently for protection if not prosecution.
“I then spoke with Ms. Zielonka,” the deputy continued, “who had a laceration to her nose, to which all parties advised that upon entering the home, she tripped over herself due to being intoxicated, and fell face first causing the laceration.
“It should be noted that throughout the entire house, there was spattered blood from Ms. Zielonka, including the bathroom being destroyed with all of the items on the counter thrown on the floor, with broken glass and vases throughout the bedroom and bathroom.
“Photographs of the clump of hair, damages to the glass and vases, and injuries to the [couple] were photographed,” to say what the victims might not.
They also got “a victim’s rights pamphlet and a domestic violence pamphlet.”
Zielonka faces two misdemeanor battery charges. She spent 11 hours in jail before her release on her own recognizance – much better than $1,500 bond for each count and alcohol monitoring her Release Order originally said.
The ages of the parents, who have a different last name, were not contained in the arrest report. Neither were the family’s living arrangements.
