OCALA, Fla. – A man charged with crimes against his mother ended up looking much worse than she did when he was arrested.

She told authorities in Florida “she was battered by her live-in adult son” on Sept. 23, his arrest report said.

It continued, saying the victim told a deputy that Scott Thomas Lamkin, 37, “began drinking intoxicating beverages earlier this morning. The victim advised everything was fine until the subject became highly intoxicated and became irate.

“The victim advised the subject began yelling at her and breaking things in the house. The victim advised the defendant broke her dining room table and threw all of her patio furniture in the backyard.

“The victim advised she went to her bathroom to get away from the defendant. The victim advised the defendant entered her bathroom and began yelling at her again.

“The victim advised the defendant grabbed her by her wrist and pulled her back towards her closet.

“The victim advised the defendant then pushed her down on the ground inside of her closet.

“The victim advised the defendant was over on top of her, and she kick[ed] him in the groin.

“The victim advised the defendant then went into the kitchen and slipped, and fell on the tile floor.

“The victim advised when the defendant got up, he was bleeding from his face and got blood all over the house.

“The victim advised the defendant was still acting erratic.

“The victim advised the defendant she was calling the police and was taking photographs of the defendant. The defendant then snatched the victim’s cell phone out of her hand.

“I observed multiple items out of place inside the residence,” the deputy wrote. “I observed a[n] end table with the center glass shattered. I observed an ottoman with a large blood stain. I observed blood in multiple areas in the kitchen. I observed multiple items, including a patio table, scattered across the backyard.

“I observed red- and purple-colored bruises on the victim’s left wrist that were in the shape of fingers. I observed a red and purple bruise on the victim’s right wrist. I observed a red and purple bruise on the victim’s left elbow.”

The victim, Scott Lamkin’s mother, is 71 years old.

Then, the deputy went to his bedroom and wrote, “I observed blood on the defendant’s face and hands. I observed two lacerations on the right side of the defendant’s face, on his cheek and near his eye.

“The defendant was highly intoxicated. I could smell a strong odor of alcohol coming from the defendant. The defendant[’s] speech was slow and slurred. The defendant had bloodshot and watery eyes.

“Post Miranda, the defendant denied any physical altercation occurred.

“The defendant also advised he did not know how he got the injuries on his face, but he believes he fell.

“The defendant then advised he did grab the victim by the wrist and pushed her hands to the floor, due to her trying to attack him.

“The defendant advised the victim was going for his neck and he defended himself.

“The defendant advised the victim then threatened to call the police to have him placed under a Baker Act.

“The defendant admitted to taking the victim’s phone while she was attempting to call law enforcement.”

Scott Lamkin was arrested and taken to a hospital for his injuries, and then to jail.

He was charged with battery on a person 65 or older and tampering with a victim’s communication to law enforcement. Both are felonies.

Lamkin spent four days in jail until his release in lieu of $10,000 bond, and he was ordered not to contact his mother or go to the house. Plus, “a third-party acceptable to the alleged victim” would have to pick up his belongings.

Then, a week after his release, his lawyer filed a Motion to Modify Conditions of Pre-Trial Release, saying in part,

“The defendant’s mother [name] still lives at [address] and would like to have her son, defendant Scott Lamkin, return to the home.”

The jury is still out on that request. A hearing on the issue was scheduled for Friday, Oct. 17.
