PHILADELPHIA — The Weitzman National Museum of American Jewish History was vandalized on Monday morning. The museum is on Independence Mall in Philadelphia.

At a time when anti-Semitism is a growing concern, WCAU reported the story hours later with video calling the place a Holocaust museum. On air, a reporter fronted the story in the newsroom’s Live Center, an area apparently named to promote a sense of urgency, regardless of whether one exists or not.

Again, it’s the Weitzman National Museum of American Jewish History, with the focus on the U.S., not Europe.

It’s like all Jewish museums are the same!
WCAU mistakenly referred to a Jewish-American history museum as a Holocaust museum on-screen on Aug. 25, 2025. (Fair use)

Monday evening, the WCAU article’s text didn’t mention the Holocaust, but the station kept the video that contained the incorrect lower-third at the top. The station could’ve replaced the video online if it ran a correct version of the story on its TV newscasts at 5, 6, 7, and 11 p.m. Actually, anytime into the following afternoon, when it still appeared, compounding the mistake. (And they say we own the media…)

Police hadn’t released any information on suspects, the station reported. Ironically, the museum sits on the former site of KYW-TV and KYW Newsradio.

Philadelphia has a separate Holocaust memorial in another part of Center City. It was the first Holocaust memorial in North America, dedicated in 1964.
